Admissions
We are registered for 42 children between the ages of 6 weeks and 5 years and therefore have to take into account:
- A child wanting a full time place will usually have preference over one requiring part-time only
- Children with siblings already with us or where there is a proven connection
We will consider children designated disabled or disadvantaged using as far as possible the same criteria as for all other children, in addition we will carry out a review of individual circumstances to meet those needs. This is necessary to fulfill our prime objective; a standard of care that ensures the welfare of all the children all the time

Behaviour and Sanctions
We operate a positive behaviour reinforcement policy at Nursery, encouraging children by praise; thus minimises any unacceptable behaviour.
We insist that any sanctions applied must take account of the age and development of the child, be given at the time, be relevant to the action and be fair.
Corporal punishment (slapping/smacking/shaking) is not acceptable practise and will not be used, although it may be necessary to take physical action in an emergency to prevent personal injury.

Mealtimes
The Nursery provides all meals including Lunch, Tea and morning and afternoon snacks. Breakfast is available from 07.30 at a charge of £2.50 - please book with any staff member.
Important: No food containing NUTS to be brought to the nursery.
In the Preschool and Toddler departments lunch is served at 12 midday and Tea is at 4 pm. The baby unit gives formula milk - provided by the nursery - and meals according to each baby’s routine, age and stage of development.
Mealtimes are an excellent social activity where children learn to sit at the table and learn table manners and assist with clearing up etc. Our meals are freshly prepared on the day using organic and local produce wherever we can. Please see the menus in reception.
Water is available at all times and children may pour their own from the filter machine provided. You may provide a flask of drink for lunch/tea if you do not wish your child to have milk/water. If you wish to send your child’s own cup, please ensure that it is clearly labelled.
Clothing
As nursery is a place where we encourage children to explore various activities including clay, sand, water and paint we suggest that children are dressed appropriately.
For children who are still not fully toilet trained (all children have the occasional accident) we suggest you send a spare set of clothes. Potty training can be discussed with the staff in the toddler unit. Always dress young children in clothing which they can cope with. Buckles and beltson trousers are difficult and time consuming if a child has to rush to the toilet. Outside play is an important part of Nursery activities so please send suitable footwear.
Access to Information
We operate an open access policy and parents are welcome to view the policies and procedures file and any time we are open, simply by asking the person in charge.
Parents are welcome to see any records relevant to their child and an appointment can be made to do this and discuss any details with staff.
Premises and Equipment
Owners and staff are responsible for the maintenance of premises and equipment. We receive inspections from the Fire Safety Offices, Health and Safety and Ofsted.
Record Keeping
We complete assessment forms at regular intervals for all children in our care
Staffing
All our policies in respect of personnel are governed by th erequirments of the Children’s Act 1989 and the requirments of Ofsted.
We aim for compatibility between all members of staff to build a good team spirit, all working in the best interests of the children, their welfare, care and development.
The nursery requires all staff to be highly motivated and training both internally and externally is a high priority. Management and all unit leaders are qualified with a relevant Early Years qualification ie NNEB, NVQ3, Early Years Care and Education, B. Ed Early Years. Nursery Assistants either hold similar qualifications or are expected to enrol on a training course.
Each unit has a team leader and 2 assistants. The minimum ratios of staff to children are:
- 1 adult to 8 pre-school children
Child Protection
The welfare of the child is paramount. Should any members of staff have concerns for the welfare of any child they will immediately take it up with a senior member of staff. Hopefully the situation can be resolved with parents and staff. If it is apparent that the matter deserves further investigation then the Child Protection Unit of Social Services will be informed
Health/Illness and Emergencies
We do not undertake the care of sick children at Nursery. Should a child become ill at Nursery the parent/carer will be contacted and requested to collect him/her as soon as possible.
In the case of a serious accident or illness ocurring then the parent/carer will be contacted immediately along with the medical professional and the appropriate action taken. In the unlikely event of a parent not being available nthe senior staff memebr will assume charge and if necessary take the child to hospital along with the relevant details.
The is always a trained first-aider at Nursery
Medication
If children have been prescribed anti-biotics they should obviously be kept at home until fit to return to Nursery, which is normally at least 48 hours after treatment, to avoid passing infections on to other children and staff
Health and Safety
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 imposes certain obligations and we fully accept our responsibilities under the Act.
Fire Drills
Are carried out every half term
Curriculum Development
Children learn best through play and exploration. At Nursery we present all children in our care with suitable opportunities and experiences to develop their desire for learning in an atmosphere of fun. Our planning for the day is based around the needs and interests of each of the children together with the broader Early Years programme that we follow.
For Pre-School, parents are informed of the curriculum framework we follow to achieve the Early Learning Goals. Please ask at Nursery for more detailed information and to see the documents.
Liaison with Parents
Partnership between parents and nursery staff is very important and we ask parents to keep us informed of details which might have an effect on the child, happy occasions as well as difficulties. We also like parents to be aware and supportive of nursery play and learning.
There is a notice board at Nursery to keep parents up-to-date and we send regular newsletters. If any parent wishes to be more involved in activities at Nursery please approach the manager who will be delighted for you to share your talents.
